Glenda Freeman’s artistic journey is a testament to the power of resilience, creativity, and self-discovery. From her early passion for art at the age of six to reigniting her love for painting in 2002, Glenda has used her craft as both a personal outlet and a way to connect with others. Her story is one of healing, as she transforms her life experiences, including the hardships of a toxic marriage, into powerful works of art. Through meditation, creativity, and dedication, Glenda continues to inspire others while pursuing her vision of opening a gallery that blends art and mindfulness.
- Can you share a bit about your personal journey and what led you to start G. Freeman Artistry?
Art has always been a part of me. Since the age of six, I knew I wanted to be an artist. My desire to pursue art professionally ignited in 2002 while painting in a friend’s studio. Before that, I hadn’t picked up a brush since 1995.
- What specific life experiences have influenced your artistic vision and practice?
My art is deeply influenced by my life experiences. I paint what I feel. One such piece, “Depression,” created in 1995, reflects a dark period marked by a toxic and abusive marriage.
- What role does mental health play in your creative process, and how do you manage it?
Painting is essential to my mental well-being. It’s a therapeutic process that helps me work through challenges and maintain balance. Combining art with meditation has significantly improved my mental clarity and overall health.
- How do you stay motivated and inspired, especially during difficult or uninspired periods?
When artistic inspiration wanes, I shift my focus to other creative outlets. Currently, I’m dedicated to marketing my art, developing a skincare line, and hosting a meditation podcast on Spotify.
- What advice would you give to other women who are pursuing a career in the arts?
Stay committed to honing your craft while exploring different creative avenues. Most importantly, embrace the joy of creation. Tap into your inner child and let your imagination run wild.
6. What future goals or projects do you have for G. Freeman Artistry, and how do you plan to achieve them?
I aspire to open an art gallery that also offers meditation and art classes. I’m currently searching for the perfect location and aiming for an early next year grand opening.
7. Are there any artists or individuals who have significantly influenced your work or career?
I enjoy the works of Jackson Pollock and Joan Miro.
8. Can you share any strategies or practices that help you maintain a healthy work-life balance?
I regularly practice meditation and cherish my solitude. Alone time is essential for rejuvenation and recharging. These quiet moments often hold the answers I seek.
