I carried her body to the water
washed her hair with my tears
sent her away with flower petals
I joined the cattails’ sway
I’ll dig a hole deep into the Earth
and leave it open to the sky
my grief will fill it over time
but there is no goodbye
We slept under the Willow Tree
the roots cradled our aching backs
I cry for that dear Willow Tree
who has since turned to ash
I cry under the sweet moonlight
She’s held me all these years
She carries all the poor lost souls
She grieves over our tears
We must return
return to the land
or our wounds will never heal
We must return to the love
who has never judged in fear
