I knelt down by the water
searching for my reflection
bubbling up from the depths
a hand
claws curled
surfaces
reaches
rips my face off
blood
sinews of what once was
hang like tattered flags
ravens circle overhead
the underbelly exposed
they’ll do as they’ve always done
feast on the remains
I feel fear
but the ravens will eat
I drag my remains into the forest
find solace in the dirt
sweet, dark dirt
I lay what’s left of me down
and rest
