What motivated you to start Thee H.E.A.R.T. Space?
Thee H.E.A.R.T. Space provides a nurturing environment for creatives to advance their projects and, when they encounter obstacles, offers the chance to overcome them through holistic healing techniques and other creative methods.
Thee H.E.A.R.T. Space holds space for creatives to progress their creative projects and when running into blocks, the opportunity to work through them by using holistic healing methods and other creative methods.
How important is community support and collaboration in your work, and how do you nurture those connections?
Community is everything because everything takes a village. The space is meant to serve the community, so communicating with them about their needs and wants is essential; then, we provide what’s needed. We nurture connections by allowing time to take its course, checking in, and offering support whenever we can. We encourage times of space and introversion just as much as being active and social in the environment. This keeps the space safe and accessible, allowing individuals to be and do what they need, knowing the love will always be there.
What are some challenges you faced while establishing Thee H.E.A.R.T. Space, and how did you overcome them?
The biggest challenge I’ve faced so far in establishing the space is the capital. Because the studio is meant to operate as more than just a space for music or photography, it’s been important to ensure we have a range of materials and mediums. Part of the goal with this is to be able to share tools like yoga and breathing with people in underserved communities. I’ve offered free group sessions for communities, but with the concept being so new, most first-timers prefer one-on-one sessions, which of course, require capital. Another challenge I’ve faced is organizing the structure in a way that centers on community needs because we all need different things at different times.
How does art play a role in your healing process, and how does Thee H.E.A.R.T. Space facilitate that?
As an artist, I often found myself creating from volatile emotions and didn’t always love what I made. When I discovered yoga, I realized how much more creative I felt after practicing, and how much more I loved my work when creating from that different space. I believe holistic practices can help us create from more than just trauma and negative experiences, and can even help us unlock new artistic levels. As yoga opens the mind, body, and spirit, art reminds us that we can shape our lives on this Earth however we want.
Can you talk about the significance of mindfulness practices like yoga and breath work in your life and how they tie into Thee H.E.A.R.T. Space?
“If I’m not well, we’re not well.” I’ve discovered that I’m the best teacher I can be when I practice for myself beforehand. I also find that I feel better and can connect more deeply when I’m consistent with my own practice. My capacity to be an exceptional teacher diminishes if I’m not at my best, and I never want to give less than 100%. I’m also learning to ask for help and establishing a barter and trade system that the community can participate in, ensuring everyone’s well-being.
In what ways do you incorporate sustainability and eco-consciousness into your creative process and the operations of Thee H.E.A.R.T. Space?
Most of the materials in Thee H.E.A.R.T. Space is second hand from donations and friends in the community. We reuse things like fabrics, papers and even make our own Yoga Mat Cleaner. We are moving into being a zero waste facility because as an artist, everything can be materials for a project. There are also weekly classes we host at the nearby park to encourage connections to nature and expressing gratitude for the Earth.
How do you balance the business aspects of running Thee H.E.A.R.T. Space with your creative and personal aspirations?
Don’t rush anything. Let goals go and allow your work to speak for itself. It doesn’t have to make sense for people to support you – Surround yourself with people that will help you achieve, grow, and support your mission.
What are your future plans or visions for Thee H.E.A.R.T. Space?
Thee H.E.A.R.T Space as it exists now, is the first of many unique experiences curated by Devisionary. The goal is to bring these Inner Child Oasis’s to different areas of the world and allow communities to build what they need. I hope to host more retreats and create a mini world of Inner Child Yoga for people to share with their friends, family, and loved ones.
