What inspired you to start K.Russo Photography? Was there a specific moment or experience that led you to pursue this path?
After some time and deep personal reflection, I realized all long I have been watching and wondering how women carry themselves, hoe they learn, how they trust and love and basically navigate life- something I had been void of most of my younger life.
What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in establishing and growing K.Russo Photography? How have you overcome them?
Truth be told, the evolution of my business has been quite the emotional rollercoaster- if you want to find ways to unearth some unfinished business and learn some hard lessons then try applying your creative passions to things like; pricing, promoting and logical crap like that- not my strong suit to say the least:)
I have weaved in and out of being “active” in my business for about 9 years, a fact which used to easily deflate me based on my default comparison behavior- social media can be a grimy ninja attempting to dampen my spirit but also a really awesome tool when optimized on a healthy mental day!
I am emotional and I am complex and I love really hard so naturally I cry real hard too- which I have grown to deeply appreciate about myself and I do think it plays so nicely in my art and my transparent vulnerability helps guide others to their emotional edge at times.
Another vibrant aspect of my personality and consequently my photography is my desire to play and encourage others to play- I love working with families just as much as women one on one; in the sand, in the water- the messier the better!
In your opinion, what role does photography play in self-expression and empowerment, particularly for women?
I think photography ignited my soul- this and becoming a mother- the best thing I have ever done! I want all Mamas to have the chance to nurture themselves and their littles, if only for a few hours. My hope is that these families will be reminded of the importance of this play time and to take themselves a bit less serious.
My dreams would have growing with these clients- to document their dynamic journeys- growing with them.
Looking towards the future, what are your goals and aspirations for K.Russo Photography? How do you hope to continue evolving and making an impact through your work?
My advice to creatives( both affirmed and otherwise) would be to take all the risks, take all the classes, talk to everyone, breakdown, rebuild and remain willing to learn forever.
