Can you share a bit about your personal journey and how it led you to establish Avelle Brand Management?
I started off as Corporate girl , turned promoter . The only dominant female promoter at the time. I just loved creating concepts and events that persons can enjoy. As I matured and life started to throw all the obstacles my way , I knew i needed to pivot , I was always passionate about community and people so I wanted to create an avenue where i can do the work i love and still serve people and help persons so that they do not have to struggle as much as i did.
What inspired you to focus on driving culture and community forward, particularly for women, through your business?
I want to be part of the solution, not the problem , to be able to contribute to a more inclusive and equitable society while also tapping into the unique perspectives and talents that women bring to the table.Being a woman in what is considered a very male dominated industry , and not having much support from other women in the early stages really drove me to wanting to create space for women and building community where women know it is ok to build and support other women . I want to break the narrative that “ women do not support other women”
It has always been my desire to create positive change and empower women to go after their dreams and accomplish their goals. I believe in fostering supportive networks and opportunities for women in business.
What are some of the biggest challenges you faced in starting and growing Avelle Brand Management, and how did you overcome them?
Wow, there have been many. However the top 2 I will say are ,
1- Overcoming Gender Bias: I had to work 3 times as hard to show that A WOMAN CAN, we can lead and we can get the job done . Gender bias can manifest in various forms, such as stereotypes about women’s leadership abilities, unequal opportunities
2- Building a TEAM and Managing People: whew challenging , but we are getting there and working on it daily … Finding the right talent that aligns with our vision, values, and goals for the business, people that have the same passion as I do have been challenging.
Despite these challenges, We have successfully navigated these obstacles and built thriving businesses and team through resilience, innovation, and community support.
How do you maintain a balance between your personal life and the demands of running a business?
I schedule in time for ME , everyday on my calendar is an hour for myself. Staying committed to self-care days and time loved ones also is very important. Although I am an entrepreneur and business owner , I work within business hours so as to give myself time for other things and my personal life. Having a great assistant is also very important .
What have been some of the most rewarding moments or accomplishments in your journey with Avelle Brand Management so far?
Some of the most rewarding moments thus far are : – Being able to employ other women , provide women with opportunities and jobs . – Working with some of the most notable celebrities in my Country. – Having my company support socially impactful campaigns . – Providing other women with the hope and tools to be able to push forward.
Have you encountered any setbacks or failures along the way, and if so, how did you handle them?
Of course !
The first thing is do is:
1) I recognize the setback for what it is and allow myself to feel any emotions that may arise.
2) Analyze the situation, what went wrong and why so that i can try to identify the lessons from the set back.
3) Create a plan of action to move forward. We Fail FORWARD in this corner.
4) Lean on My God and my community
5) I stay positive …. knowing that i will grow through it
Can you share a particularly memorable experience or project that exemplifies the mission and values of Avelle Brand Management?
There are so many it is hard to choose one . I take pride in taking on projects that are going to make a difference . I think planning and executing the US Ambassador first public visit will top the list is i had to choose one. Creating the moment where she can address the public and engage with 1000 kids, giving back to the community and country in this way and having it covered by every media house …. Socially impactful .
What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs, especially those looking to make a positive impact in their communities?
Believe in yourself . Have GOD , SERVICE and PEOPLE as your main focus . MAKE A PLAN … A CLEAR PLAN and stick to it. Change the direction as you go along but stick to your plan.
How do you stay motivated and inspired during challenging times or periods of uncertainty?
I PRAY… and stay disciplined even when i am not motivated , because i am not motivated everyday . My discipline fills the gap.
