What inspired you to start Conscious Chaun and your other businesses?
All of my business ideas are a combination of divine guidance and things I’m passionate about that stem from personal life experiences.
Can you share a bit about your personal journey and how it led you to where you are today?
My journey has been a bit of a wild one. I’ve had a lot of drastic life changes in the past 5 years. I’ve had two children, gotten divorced, relocated to a new state alone with three children (two under two at the time), and purchased a house as a single black mother. I had a lot of dreams true and I’ve also had a change in the direction of my life. I had a well-paying job but felt like I wasn’t fulfilled in the work I was doing. I chose to take a leap of faith in a new direction for the work I’m doing now. I’m just trusting God and going with the flow.
Were there any significant struggles or challenges you faced while building your businesses and pursuing your creative projects?
Big yes. The challenges I’ve faced were navigating everything alone. Everything I’ve created and built thus far I’ve done on my own without physical or financial help or support. That has been the biggest challenge.
How did your spiritual awakening influence the direction of your work and projects?
My spiritual awakening guided me to more heart-centered work. When I was younger, I always said I wanted to help others. The “how” changed several times from childhood to adulthood, but the goal and the desire has remained the same.
What advice do you have for other women looking to start their own businesses or embark on creative endeavors?
Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone to pursue things you feel called to.
Do your due diligence.
Ask for help when you need it or guidance when you’re unsure.
Focus on your goals and what you’re striving to do. Don’t compare what you’re doing to what anyone else is doing – your idea, vision, goal, etc. was given to you for a reason.
Take breaks. Take time for yourself to replenish yourself.
How do you stay motivated and focused on your purpose during challenging times?
God. I pray to God. I ask God for strength, courage, and faith to keep going on the path He has directed me.
What role does self-care play in your life, especially as a woman entrepreneur?
When I stepped into entrepreneurship I neglected myself and was headed down burnout street at a high rate of speed. I really had to take a step back, calm my mind and spirit, and reevaluate my approach. Self-care is a necessity. Now I will absolutely go ghost from the world for the sake of caring for me.
What are some key principles or values that guide your businesses and creative projects?
“Love what you do, do what you love”
“Treat others how you want to be treated”
“Do no harm, take no sh*t”
Making sure I’m doing things that in alignment with what I’m guided to do and who I’m guided to help.
Have you faced any unique challenges or opportunities as a woman in the business world, and if so, how have you navigated them?
I don’t think I’ve faced any challenges that haven’t already been faced by other women in the business or creative world. I’ve just used the challenges as an opportunity to pause & pivot or pause & exit.
