June Tarot + Animal Medicine

Father of Pentacles + Firefly Spirit

As he approached the community garden, Papa Pents noticed a couple of the neighboring gardens that were struggling. While his own was in full bloom, those gardens closest to his were weak, wilting and overwrought by weeds. After overcoming a momentary desire to do the work for others, Papa Pents gathered the other gardeners and began to teach them all he knew. He taught them about tending to and caring for their plants with tender hands and soft words; he showed them the right amounts of water, food and light they required; he demonstrated for them the soft magic of properly loving and nurturing a garden into full growth and bloom. Papa Pents could have spared himself the time by just doing the dirty work for everyone and calling it a day, but he understands that a true leader does not do the work for others, but rather supports others to do the work for themselves. By teaching others how to dirty their own hands, Papa Pents was helping to inspire and lead the way for seasons of gardeners. In doing so, he ensured that they would all benefit from a lush and well-tended to garden for years to come.

Firefly Spirit comes to us again this month. If you recall, he was with us not too long ago. Paired with the Father of Pentacles, Firefly is a reminder that the things which light us up most are not necessarily the things we do for ourselves. Often, we look within for the lightness that inspires us—for the passion that burns brightly in our soul, the spark that is but our own. And while this is well and good, there are moments when we shine for ourselves, moments when we shine for others and moments when we allow others to shine in their turn. As we bound into this month, try to keep this in mind: do not dull your shine for others, but do not overshadow others’ light for yourself.

The Father of Pentacles understands this give and take relationship like no other. Not only does he put in the right kind of energy so that he may reap the rewards, but for others, too. What he sows, we shall all sow, as well.

This month, it may be beneficial for you to put your own light on the back burner in order to support and nurture someone else’s. By no means am I telling you to extinguish your own light entirely; however, there comes a time and a place when others will need the guidance, encouragement and support to shine. If you find yourself in the energy akin to the Father of Pentacles, your light is likely already turned on and turned up. You have done your work and have likely benefited from it greatly. Now is the time to help others do this for themselves, as well. There are bound to be those around you who could learn from your own experiences, benefit from your kindness and generosity and be taught how to nurture their own abilities and brightness. When we support each other, we support ourselves, our collective growth and our progression.

Notice where you can shine this month, and then notice where you can help others shine for themselves. Remember, we are all in this together; you have been given this opportunity to help lead the way. Be big and bold and expansive not only for yourself, but also for all the others who are touched by your energy.
