Thinking About Living The Chemical Free Life?

In this day and age, it seems like EVERYTHING is bad for you from the food you eat to what toothpaste you’re going to use. I have given some thought to changing some of the products I use just to limit the chemical exposure to my body. Some may call me a hypocrite because I want kale, but also get shellac manicures, but hey people, that’s the way this cookie is crumbling! It’s your body so be sure to treat it how you want to ….(hopefully you are being kind of course). So if you’re interested in some healthier options for deodorants, lotions, toothpastes, etc. then read on.

 Lotion

When I think about lotion I think about smooth skin after a warm bath, I don’t have time to worry if it’s harmful to me or not. Unfortunately, it may be effecting you more than you know. They say the six most harmful ingredients found in most lotions as Butylated Hydroxyanisole (BHA), DMDM Hydantoin, Fragrance + Parfum, Parabens and Triethanolamine. These chemicals are some of the reasons you have allergic reactions, rashes and even migraines. Everything is linked to each other and after so much exposure it can lead to long term effects. So what do I use then? Simple. I look for products with all natural ingredients. My favorite company is LUSH Cosmetics, they use all natural products and safe synthetics to create everything from lotion to shampoo and makeup! I love the lotion Charity pot it smells like heaven and warm towels. With every purchase of Charity Pot, they donate 100% of the price (minus the taxes) to small grassroots organizations working in the areas of environmental conservation, animal welfare and human rights.

Toothpaste

We have heard about this rumor for some time now….toothpaste is bad and filled with CRAP! Your everyday good ‘ole toxin tube, but you know if there is so much talk maybe half of it is true. Unfortunately, the rumors are true as an AVID Crest 3D whitening user. I have always wanted whiter teeth, but I didn’t know what I was giving up for it. So here it goes: Toothpaste contains many potentially harmful ingredients, including some that can lead to serious long-term health problems. These ingredients include Sodium Fluoride, Triclosan, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Propylene Glycol and DEA ( diethanolamine) and all of these ingredients can lead to hormonal imbalance, cancer and abnormalities to the brain, liver and kidney…YEAH thanks America. So what should you use? I am picking up the Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps Toothpaste because I am in loveeeee with their soap. it’s multi-purpose and very affordable!

Deodorant

Finally, we have deodorant. Now this cosmetic staple has been tossed our way since middle school with little information. With time, people have found that this can actually cause more harm than good. Have you checked your deodorant labels? Most contain these ingredients: Aluminum Compounds, Parabens,  Steareths, Triclosan, Propylene Glycol, TEA and DEA, Artificial Colors. Once again products leading to breast cancer, damage to central nervous system and Alzheimer’s disease. Luckily there are alternatives, the reason for this post and the motivation for my research come from this company  that opened my eyes to natural deo! Reviews.com spent months talking with a dermatologist, a chemist, and two natural deodorant creators. They hand-tested 23 to find their top picks: aluminum-free formulas with pleasant scents, goop-free application, and minimal residue. They have a couple of great options and products you can choose from.
